About the Bicentennial

The Jacksonville Historical Society, in partnership with several community organizations representing Arts & Culture, Business & Industry, Education, Environment, Faith, Government, Health & Wellness, Media, Nonprofit, and Sports & Entertainment, are planning and will kick off bicentennial events in January 2022 with programs and events throughout the entire bicentennial year. A primary public celebration event will be held mid-June 2022, near the date formally recognized by historians as when Jacksonville was established.

The Jacksonville Historical Society

The Jacksonville Historical Society is a nonprofit, established in 1929, serving the public through educational programming, and through a continually growing archival repository of documents, photographs, rare books and artifacts relating to Jacksonville history. With offices and archives located in historic buildings on Palmetto Street, the society advocates for the preservation of historic sites, provides speakers on a variety of Jacksonville history topics, and leads walking tours, among many other activities.
