Jacksonville Origins: A Talk with Emily Lisska

June 11, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Why was the narrow crossing on the St. Johns the selected location? Why was the timing right in 1822 to found the town? Who decided to set the founding in motion and how did they proceed? What results stemmed from that June day in 1822? During her talk, “Jacksonville Origins,” Emily Lisska, former executive director of the Jacksonville Historical Society (1996-2018), will answer these questions and more. A Jacksonville native, Emily has actively researched, preserved, presented, and promoted North Florida’s unique and diverse history for more than three decades. Emily is immediate past-president and current board member of the Florida Historical Society.
Enjoy Emily’s love of history and her gifted storytelling as she sheds light on the city’s founding. It’s a look back at more than the city’s 200 celebrated years. Pre-registration is required. Click here to register: https://jaxpubliclibrary.libnet.info/event/6431533
